Broken

I choked back a sob, the ache in my heart intensified with every beat. The body feels numbed, knocked out of breath. Could physical pain overcome emotional hurt, at least for a while? It's strange how I was still alive despite the pain I was feeling, that the heart never once stopped beating.

Maybe it isn't true then, that you could die from a heartbreak.
