Cabin crew dictionary

In a blink of an eye, it's already been almost 9 months since I joined the company and 8 months since I started flying. I can honestly say that it's truly an awesome job which I'm so thankful for. The only down side is that I'm away 2/3 of a month and that means very little time for people I love back here in Singapore.

Anyway, I've decided that I should start blogging properly and with my (semi) new MV900F I promise myself  I'll take more photos and keep this blog alive!

Here're some pictures taken with my phone while I was on a SYD trip some time back. Darling Harbour is beautiful! And the seagulls would do anything for a french fry I swear.

Sooo... I've realised that as crew we tend to speak in what can be "technical terms" and sometimes I forgot that my friends wouldn't understand who or what I'm referring to. Hence I've decided to come up with a list of words that we often use among my colleagues that could help my friends understand what we are referring to!

Of course, these words/terms could only be specific to the airline I'm working with. And I'm not tryna act like some guru lah, just thought it'd be a topic I can blog about.
  1. First and foremost, we now refer to countries by their airport code. It's kinda just instilled into us because we need to write it on our crew luggage tag. Eg. instead of London we'll say LHR, Beijing is PEK, and the above SYD refers to Sydney etc.
  2. FO = First Officer ie Co-pilot
  3. CSD is the head of cabin crew, somewhat like a CEO on a flight managing all of us crew and pretty much handles everything major.
  4. Pursers are like the managers on the flight. There are usually 2 pursers on each flight working in different cabins.
  5. MBTs are my off days. I have no idea what it stands for or if other airlines uses this too.
  6. 12-hour pool is somewhat like a Standby but we can only be activated at least 12 hours before reporting time.
  7. Pax up/ pax down/ paxing means that we will be reporting as passengers (which I LOVE heh heh).
  8. Gilet is a vest like thingy that we wear during service on board.
  9. Galley is the "kitchen" area in each cabin where we prepare the hot meals, coffee, tea, etc.
  10. I can't think of anymore but just a interesting thing to note, the next time you're on a flight, after the crew are asked to be seated, you will hear a "ding-dong-ding-dong". It actually means that the flight is about to take off and all crew must be seated by then!
Hope this helps a little! :)
